Organic Certification

Dovex has one of the largest and most complete organic programs in the industry - committed to sustainable agricultural practices. Organic products are packed using organically dedicated equipment to ensure integrity. Dovex is QAI and WSDA organic certified and one of the few Washington shippers that meet European organic standards, including IFOAM certification. Dovex will market over 1.5 million cartons of organic certified apples, pears, cherries and stone fruit this season. Dovex farms over 3,900 acres in Washington State, thirty percent of this acreage is certified organic, with several hundred more acres being transitioned to organic status. Dovex is one of the largest growers in Washington state and was recently recognized as #8 among the "TOP 100 GROWERS" in America by Western Fruit Growers magazine.

WSDA

Because of the prominent role Washington Apples have played in the organic sphere, it should come as no surprise that the Washington State Department of Agriculture would have among the most thorough and respected state-based organic certification program in the country.

Because of the regular physical presence of WSDA inspectors throughout the Washington Apple industry, it is only natural that they would take on the role as the certifying agency of the NOP – National Organic Program.

QAI

Independent, third party certification of organic food systems has been the foundation of domestic and international organic food trade. The much sought-after QAI Certification Program is designed to certify every step of the organic chain:

From the land on which the product is grown; to the producers growing the product; to the post-harvest facilities preparing the product; to the processing and handling facilities transforming the product.

IFOAM

The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements is the worldwide umbrella organization for the organic movement, uniting 750 organizations in 108 different countries. The IFOAM Organic Guarantee System assures organic integrity internationally. In the rapidly growing environment of marketing and trade of products claiming to be “organic,” IFOAM (OGS) unites the organic world through a common system of standards, verification, and market identity. It fosters equivalence among participating certifiers, paving the way for more orderly and reliable trade.

The IFOAM Organic Guarantee System enables organic certifiers to become “IFOAM Accredited” and for their certified operators to label products with the IFOAM Seal next to the logo of their IFOAM accredited certifier. Accreditation is based on the certifier’s compliance with IFOAM norms.

Kosher Certification

The word kosher means proper or acceptable and has informally entered the English language with meaning. But kosher laws have their origin in the Bible and are detailed in the Talmud and other codes of Jewish tradition. They have been applied through the centuries to ever changing situations and these rulings; both ancient and modern, govern OU Kosher certification.

The barometer of kosher and non-kosher depends on two variables: the source of the ingredients and the status of the production equipment. Kosher certification, which is the guarantee that the food meets kosher requirements, revolves around these two criteria.
